10 year old Neil Allen plays drum cover of The Who's "Who are you". *ATTENTION* This work is presented under a claim of fair-use. It is presented for the purpose of peer review of the technical and artistic skills of the poster (Neil Allen). Effective measures have been put in place to render this work valueless as a reproduction of the underlying work. The spoilers are: 1. The drum arrangement is not the original as performed by Keith Moon of the Who, but is; in fact, a significantly divergent original arrangement composed by Neil Allen. 2. There is an annoying mistake at 3:07, that spoils the piece as a replacement sound track of the original song by "The Who" (this mistake is completely consistent with the intended purpose of obtaining peer review of the performers technique however). 3. The overall quality of the audio is intentionally, and significantly impaired. In addition, to seeking peer review, this work also seeks to provide value to the percussion community at-large, through the presentation of original percussion arrangement. The underlying work ("Who are you" by "The Who") remains the sole copyright of the owner.
My Generation by The Who. Performed September 15, 1967 on The Smothers Brothers Comedy Hour. This is the Infamous performance in which the drummer, Kieth Moon, had extra charges added into his bass drum for the explosion without telling the rest of the band. The explosion was too intense and resulted in Moon getting cut up from his drum kit while the guitarist Pete Townshend's hearing suffers.
The Who are an English rock band that formed in 1964. The primary lineup consisted of guitarist Pete Townshend, vocalist Roger Daltrey, bassist John Entwistle and drummer Keith Moon. The band reached international success, became known for their energetic live performances, are regarded as one of the most influential rock bands of the 1960s and '70s, and recognized as one of the greatest rock and roll bands of all time.
1979 at Shepperton Studios, first rehearsals with Kenney Jones. Who Are You: www.youtube.com
This is a difficult song because Keith Moon had such of his own personality woven into his playing. I don't claim to play this note for note and I am not. I truly believe it's virtually impossible for anyone to play this exactly note for note anyhow. This is my version. I hope I caught the feel and spirit of the song. I really try to control the urge to "ride" a crash cymbal through-out the song. He did that live but in the studio he used a hi-hat and used the hi-hats all through this song. I brought out a 20 inch swish cymbal for this song and you can see I should have used it more in the video but the first time I hit it while I playing, I realized that it wasn't balanced properly so I then used it more sparingly. LOL Keith Moon had a way of "floating" time with interesting fills, no two ever the same, and he keeps very busy when he plays. The best I've heard his style described is "controlled chaos". We all miss his musical contributions. The world is not the same without him.
